Population of Malaysia

The estimated population in 2000 was 2,449,389 inhabitants.

The various indigenous groups comprise a number of towns that can be highlighted as the most significant include:

Kadazan / Dusun. The most widespread ethnic group in Sabah, about a third of the population, is spread especially along the west coast and are prosperous farmers and the best producers of rice in the state. This race is subdivided into numerous subgroups, all related to each other.

Bajau. Among the Bajau must distinguish those who inhabit the east coast found on the west side. The latter are great riders and for that reason are known as the "cowboys of the East." They are also rice farmers. The Bajau of the West, however, are sea nomads who only go to the coasts to bury their dead. They have been named the "Sea Gypsies."
